The news that a Royal Mail employee was escorted off his employer’s premises by police for wearing the wrong type of shorts has reminded me of one my youthful misdemeanours – or was it a crime?
While working as a temp in the executive suite of a well-known, national employment agency, I inadvertently misunderstood the concept of “smart skirt”, thinking that length (or lack of it) was not an issue. Being sent home to change into something more suitable by a stern HR woman – who was afraid that the sight of flesh would cause a stir – was a painful experience. Thankfully, though, no police were involved.
The experience happened many years ago – it seems that times are getting even tougher in the corporate world.
